Bar Screen

The bar screen is the most basic type of coarse screen used in wastewater treatment plants. It consists of vertically or inclined arranged parallel metal bars placed in a channel to retain large-sized solids (cloths, wood, plastic, debris, etc.) from the wastewater.

How It Works?

  1. As wastewater flows through the bars, solids larger than the openings are trapped.
  2. These solids are:
    – Removed manually (with a rake)
    – Or collected and removed by mechanical systems (automatic rake, chain systems).
