Drum Screen

A drum screen is a rotating cylindrical screening system used in wastewater treatment plants to separate solids from liquids. It is used to remove fine to medium-sized solids in the wastewater (e.g., plastic particles, fibers, sludge fragments). It typically functions as a fine screen.

How It Works?

  1. Wastewater is directed either into or onto the rotating drum-shaped screen.
  2. As the drum rotates, water passes through the screen openings while solids are retained on the surface.
  3. Solids retained onto the drum surface are removed by brushes or spray nozzles.
  4. The solids are conveyed to disposal via a screw or conveyor.
