PENSTOCKS AND GATES

Penstocks and gates used in wastewater treatment plants are mechanical control equipment used to regulate the flow of water. These equipment are typically installed in channels, at the inlets/outlets of tanks, in pipelines, and waterways to control, direct, or completely stop the flow.

  • Penstock (Gate Valve)
A penstock is an equipment that opens and closes the passage of water via a vertically moving gate mounted on square or rectangular cross-section channels, culverts, or pipes.
  • Gates (Stop Log, Flap Gate)
Gates are used to allow water to flow only in certain directions or to completely stop the flow. They are generally simpler or used for specific purposes compared to penstocks.
