UF

UF (Ultrafiltration) is a membrane filtration method used in wastewater treatment. It separates suspended solids, bacteria, viruses, and high-molecular-weight organic substances from water by passing it through a semi-permeable membrane under pressure.

UF System Characteristics :

  • Pore size: Typically between 0.01–0.1 microns
  • Pressure: Operates under low pressure (1–5 bar)
  • Can remove: Bacteria, colloids, proteins, some viruses, macromolecules
  • Cannot remove: Dissolved salts and very small molecules (e.g., ions)

Where is UF Used?

  • Drinking water treatment
  • Industrial process water recovery
  • As a membrane unit after biological treatment in MBR systems
  • Pre-treatment for reverse osmosis systems
  • Greywater recovery

Advantages:

  • Low (or no) chemical usage.
  • Compact and modular structure
  • Consistent and high water quality
  • Easy maintenance with automatic cleaning (CIP) systems
