UF
UF (Ultrafiltration) is a membrane filtration method used in wastewater treatment. It separates suspended solids, bacteria, viruses, and high-molecular-weight organic substances from water by passing it through a semi-permeable membrane under pressure.

UF System Characteristics :
- Pore size: Typically between 0.01–0.1 microns
- Pressure: Operates under low pressure (1–5 bar)
- Can remove: Bacteria, colloids, proteins, some viruses, macromolecules
- Cannot remove: Dissolved salts and very small molecules (e.g., ions)
Where is UF Used?
- Drinking water treatment
- Industrial process water recovery
- As a membrane unit after biological treatment in MBR systems
- Pre-treatment for reverse osmosis systems
- Greywater recovery
Advantages:
- Low (or no) chemical usage.
- Compact and modular structure
- Consistent and high water quality
- Easy maintenance with automatic cleaning (CIP) systems
